The Independent

Recently completed and perched upon the Mount Pleasant hill sits the Independent by Rize Developments. At the South West corner of Broadway and Kingsway The Independent houses 258 units ranging from studios to two bedrooms plus dens. Being on the hill and surrounded by lower rise complexes means many of the suites feature panoramic views of the city, downtown, and North Shore mountains. The first of its kind to be developed in Mount Pleasant the Independent anchors the community and provides a foundation for future developments in the neighbourhood. Like the Woodward did to Gastown the Independent provides a landmark, a meeting hub, retail shops, and homes to this vibrant neighbourhood.

It’s certainly a cool building with lots to offer so lets dive into a little more about the building, what’s in the hood and what makes this such a lively place to call home.

Building amenities include a 1,200 sqft fitness facility, a community lounge, workroom, and secure bike storage rooms for over 300 bikes. Additionally nestled between the podium and tower buildings is The Independents 20,000 sqft backyard, one of the largest private parks in Vancouver. This area includes something for everyone including raised garden beds, barbecues, hammocks, loungers, and more.

Squeeze that fat ass into a pair of skinny jeans and rebuild a 10 speed, or just sit back and enjoy Mount Pleasant for what it is: eclectic, inventive and both culturally and socio-economically diverse. Over the last 10 years Mount Pleasant has become one of Vancouver's most interesting and fastest changing neighbourhoods. We predict you'll fall head over heels for the indie fashion, art and coffee.

Craving a donut? A masterpiece of an espresso? Late night diner? Mexican? Japanese? Thin Crust Pizza? Vietamese Pho? Bone Broth? Indian Curry? Thai Stiryfry? I think you may get the point. Whatever you’re craving all the above (and a few extras) are within a 10 minute walk of the Independent and it’s all really delicious. Trust us, our office is located just across the street. O and there’s the breweries, there’s 8 in the neighbourhood, beer is a food group right?

Practically on Main Street it’s an easy stroll to the boutique shops that dot the street from fashion to art, clothing, and more it’s all there! Then down Broadway you’ll find MEC, Dunbar Cycles, and others to keep you stocked for any and all outdoor adventures. Nester’s is located in the building and Buy-Low foods across Kingsway for groceries.

The Independent is in the catchment zone for Mount Pleasant Elementary (K-7) located only a short walk away at 2300 Guelph Street. For high school there is Vancouver Technical Secondary (8-12) located at 2600 E. Broadway which is just 15min by bus.

If driving Broadway and Kingsway are both main veins to bomb into the city or out. The 99 Express bus stops at your front door for easy runs to UBC, out to Commercial, or connecting with the Skytrain. Then they’re are multiple bus options down Main into Chinatown, Gastown, and Downtown for those nights out on the town.

From killer amenities to the vibrant city views The Independent is a first class building in a stellar neighbourhood. If you’re interested in learning more about it, give us a call we’d be happy to answer anything you’d like to know.
