For the 14th year the Interior Design Show Vancouver (IDS Vancouver) is back! Running from Sept 18th-23rd, at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
As stated on their website IDS Vancouver “is the Pacific platform for all things design and is the premier showcase of new products and furniture, superstar designers and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond.”
The show consists of speakers, well over 100 exhibitors, and larger immersive/interactive features.
A couple features I’m personally curious to see are:
The Untitled (392 Sheets of Plywood) Central Bar : this in an installation by Origins CNC and Leckie Studio, created only using plywood without adhesives and joined primarily using an interlocking assembly system.
What the HEL? From Finland : “a trend installation showcasing Finnish design, mixing visual and societal trends in a narrative, surprising, ambient and multidisciplinary way.”
The official colours of the design show this year were chosen in partnership with Benjamin Moore. They’ll be used on various surfaces throughout the show to “to illustrate the subjectivity of colour and all the nuances and variations therein.”
As for Exhibitors we're looking out for:
Montauk Sofa - hand made at their montreal factotry Montauk sofas have a solid wood frame all covered by memory foam and down filled feather cushions, as high quality as you can make a sofa.
BoConcept - with a mission defined as "to make modern design furniture available to the urban-minded customer" they make some stunning pieces.
Matthew McCormick Studio - "a multi-disciplinary design studio based in Vancouver that produces distinctive lighting and artistic installations."
GreenWorks Building Supply - Vancouver's one-stop shop for environmentally friendly building materials.
The Speaker to watch out for:
Karim Rashid - Sundays keynote speaker, Karim will be speaking at 3pm on the 23rd. Described as "one of the most prolific designers of his generation" Karim's designs include luxury goods for Christofle, Veuve Clicquot, and Alessi, democratic products for Umbra, Bobble, and 3M, furniture for Bonaldo and Vondom, lighting for Artemide and Fontana Arte, high tech products for Asus and Samsung, surface design for Marburg and Abet Laminati, brand identity for Citibank and Sony Ericsson and packaging for Method, Paris Baguette, Kenzo and Hugo Boss. Thats just to name a few.
There's heaps more information on the IDS site, including a list of all exhibitors that will be attending. Rather then me go ranting on for days, check them out here. And I hope to see you there!
FYI - Adult tickets are $16 for a single day and $22 for a weekend pass, they can be purchased through the IDS Vancouver website at: http://vancouver.interiordesignshow.com/
